My Experience with the homerunPET Litter Box: One Cleaning Tip I Recommend

I have been using the homerunPET self-cleaning litter box in my cattery, and overall, I am very happy with it. It is sturdy, works very well, and is surprisingly easy to take apart, thoroughly clean, and put back together.

However, I discovered one small thing that can make cleaning even easier.

At the bottom of the litter box, underneath the removable rubberized liner, there is a flexible gray panel attached to the white base with two small Phillips-head screws.

My recommendation is simple: remove those two screws and leave them out.

The gray panel fits securely in place without them. It is flexible, easy to lift out, and just as easy to put back. I removed the screws from my own litter box and have not put them back.

The reason is that small amounts of litter and debris can get underneath this panel during normal use, so this area should be cleaned whenever you thoroughly wash the litter box. Without the screws, you simply lift the panel out, wash underneath it, rinse the panel, and put it back into place.

With the screws installed, you have to find a small Phillips screwdriver and unscrew the panel every time you want to clean underneath it. Personally, I don’t see any reason to add this extra step when the panel stays securely in place without them.

So when you first set up your litter box—or the first time you take it apart for a thorough cleaning—remove the two screws. After that, cleaning this area takes only seconds.

Of course, if you prefer to keep the screws installed, you can. Just remember to periodically remove the gray panel and clean underneath it.

Other than this small detail, I have been very happy with the litter box. Mine gets much heavier use in a cattery than it would in a typical home, and I especially appreciate how easy the entire unit is to disassemble and thoroughly clean.

This is simply one practical tip from my own experience that makes maintaining an already very good litter box even easier.
