Why Cheap Kittens Often Cost More

I write about kitten pricing quite often, but once again, a potential buyer recently told me: "Your kittens are beautiful, but I found one online for half the price."

Okay, let's talk about pricing. My prices have not increased in the past three years. In fact, they are already as low as I can reasonably make them. If I lowered my prices any further, I would have only two choices:

Either I would have to cut corners on how I raise my cats and kittens...

Or I would have to work without making a living.

A LOW KITTEN PRICE BECOMES A HIGH VETERINARY BILL.

A healthy Maine Coon cannot be raised for half the price.

It's simple math:

Organic farm-raised meat.

Premium food.

A professionally equipped cattery.

Fresh air every day.

Quality breeding cats.

Equipment.

Time.

Knowledge.

Experience.

None of these cost half as much.

A kitten's low price doesn't disappear after you bring it home.

A cheap kitten can become a very expensive cat if health problems begin.

One veterinary bill can easily cost more than the money you thought you saved.

When you choose a breeder, don't ask only, "How much does the kitten cost?"

Remember: To become a breeder, you don't need a license or any formal education. Anyone can simply buy breeding cats and call themselves a breeder.

But a breeder needs knowledge of genetics, pregnancy and childbirth, newborn kitten care, nutrition, disease prevention, growth and development, behavior. And knowing when to recognize a problem before it becomes an emergency.

So before asking price, ask: what knowledge stands behind the breeder who raised it?

Personally, a very low price would make me stop and ask one simple question:

"What is this breeder saving money on?"

Because raising healthy Maine Coons is expensive.

The first place many breeders cut costs is nutrition.

Good nutrition is one of the biggest expenses in any cattery.

On my page, I openly show exactly how I feed my cats. Premium-quality food. Organic farm-raised chicken. Fresh raw food. Freshly cooked meat. I have nothing to hide because I'm proud of how my cats are raised.

Ask yourself one question: What do you want to pay for?

A lower purchase price...

Or a healthy kitten with a strong immune system that has been raised correctly from the very beginning?

Saving money on the purchase can easily become years of veterinary bills.
