Problem Coat? Tangled Fur? Here's What Might Be Going On 🧬

ree

If your cat's fur looks greasy, matted, or just plain neglected no matter how much you brush — it’s time to look deeper.

Spoiler: it’s not about brushing. It’s about digestion.

More specifically — protein overload.

High-protein diets are great… for some cats. But for others, they overload the system. And guess what the body does when it can’t handle the excess?

Right. It dumps it into the skin — leading to oily fur and mats.

Here’s what you can do:

Check the ingredients.

Try reducing protein a bit and increasing fiber or moderate carbs.

Simply switching foods can sometimes work wonders.

A client of mine once shared advice from her vet:

“Put out several kinds of food. Let your cats choose what they need.”

Brilliant! I do the same in my cattery.

Each cat chooses what works for their body.

But then she added:

“We mix all the foods together in one container and serve that.”

…No. Just no.

That’s not choice — that’s chaos.

Each premium food is balanced for a goal — liver support, kidney care, high protein, weight control, etc.

If you mix them all together, you cancel out those benefits and confuse your cat’s system.

Think of it like this:

Would you mix three different medications into one mystery pill and hope for the best?

Same logic applies.

Give your cats variety — but don’t create a Frankenstein meal.

Cats are intuitive eaters. Just don’t get in their way.
